{"id":116,"date":"2010-02-12T18:00:08","date_gmt":"2010-02-12T17:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mekons.de\/news\/?p=116"},"modified":"2010-02-12T18:16:28","modified_gmt":"2010-02-12T17:16:28","slug":"rico-bell-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mekons.de\/news\/?p=116","title":{"rendered":"Rico Bell Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.meyergallery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.meyergallery.com\/ui\/meyer_gallery_logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"394\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Friday March 12th<\/strong>:<br \/>\nEric Bellis (to Mekonistas known as Rico Bell) will present large paintings at the Meyer Gallery.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Eric Bellis: Statement on the \u201cAgricultural Series\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I began forming ideas for the \u2018Agricultural Labor\u2019 series of paintings several years ago while living in San Luis Obispo; a farming area on the central coast region of California. At the time I was \u2018in between\u2019 both house and studio with most of my equipment and materials \u2018in store\u2019 so I made use of the time by taking notes, drawing, making studies and generally observing. Subsequently I was able to take those studies, observations, and things remembered and begin developing this series of paintings.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.meyergallery.com\/thumbs\/2594.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/>The series is no less formal in approach than my previous work however the subject matter inevitably affects the outcome. As my painting progresses ambiguities appear and, as I respond to them, a dialogue develops between the painting and myself. The end result contains layers of  \u2018unknowns\u2019 open to interpretation for me as much as they might be to the viewer.
